Like many people, you have worked hard all your life in an effort to have a good life for yourself and provide for your family. No doubt, you have accumulated assets; a home and perhaps other real estate, cars, bank accounts and other financial holdings.
Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances befall us all, and if we are lucky through those circumstances, the inevitable will happen. Sooner or later we all pass on. Fortunately, the law allows you to decide what happens after you are gone. By making a will, you can assure that the things you have accumulated over your lifetime go to whoever you choose.
If you die without a will, state law determines who gets your property. A will lets you make that decision instead of the state. A will also helps avoid quarreling and fighting among family members when a loved one passes. Each family member can see what the deceased loved one wanted.
Who needs a will?
Just about everyone needs a will. Life is uncertain, and there is no guarantee any of us will see tomorrow. If you have any assets, you need to make a will and revise it or make another will as life events change. For instance, newlyweds should make or revise their wills. A will should be made or revised as children are born, when a divorce occurs or when there is a major change in assets. These are just some of the changes in circumstances when a new will should be made.
